Regret

Chained Dolls Free Verse Poetry

Maybe I should have jumped in the water
and swam to who knows where.

Lost in the day when time’s chargé serviced
diplomacy, I watch as the hands of a clock
turn sand into water. Lying flat against life’s
chessboard, the sky becomes the vocal majority.
Earth’s trumpet blows – one camera flashes –
a snapshot, time has its reasons.

I’m such an idiot – time has no reason,
holds no frame. My imagination
remains the liquid dreams which have
washed away my stone. Regret is all I feel
as sand passes over my once hazel eyes.

I should have jumped and swam
to who knows where.
