There Was Something

Chained Dolls Free Verse Poetry

There was something solemn
about her spirit, archaic
eyes shining like precious emeralds.
Darkness in her smile
reflects against ivory teeth,
parting for an elegant tongue
speaking of ancient mysteries.

There was something hesitant
in her movement, body flowing
freely like a river gliding across
sand and stone while vines
strangled her ankles, choking light
out of each step – a tidal wave
slowly approaching wisdom.

There was something forbidden
in her kiss – lips soft, warm.
An ocean formed around us
smothering any chance of freedom.
I welcomed what she offered,
hands on my thigh, mine on hers –
our future held in an hourglass.
